We've been working on our logic models, which is a fancy way of saying we are forming a plan for attacking the issues that make it more likely a minor will drink (or do drugs, but the numbers say underage drinking is the overwhelming problem right now).
Below is a link to a document detailing what I've come up with from looking at the needs of the community, but you coalition members know the community better than me; I would love it if you would take a minute to look at my brainstorming and poke holes in it. This is what we'll be talking about at the meeting.
If you take a look at the document, you'll notice that some of the ideas for intervention are very, VERY ambitious. That's how I think; I'm a dreamer.
BUT it's not the best way to practically address these issues. Interventions should be prioritized by asking three questions:
1) Is it urgent?
2) Is it changeable?
3) Is it sustainable?
Basically, when deciding which interventions to try first, you need to look at what you have the capacity RIGHT NOW to change. It doesn't make sense to spend all your time on getting tough legislation passed (although that's a worthy goal!) if you can more easily help to get a worthwhile program in a school or go out and do retailer compliance checks.
So, below is the link to my gigantic, overachieving list of ideas. Which interventions can we do right now? Which ones do you, as a community member of East Texas, have the most faith in? What can you think of that I haven't addressed?
